5by5
Most artists I know who spend a lot of time either staring into a computer screen or a blank piece of paper listen to plenty of podcasts. I'm no exception, so as I came back from break I did a couple portraits of the two voices I listen to the most in podcastland. If you're any type of tech geek or GTD enthusiast you probably already know about 5by5, if not, then, you're welcome.
(Both portraits done based purely on the sound of their voice and nothing else).

SHERLOCK
This show was pitched to me as "a modern Sherlock Holmes that texts", to which I replied "Pfft, please!" *Cut to me watching the show, grinning from ear to ear and my inner geek swooning.*
January 1st Sherlock returned kicking off the first of three new episodes and it continues to be one of the cleverest shows on television! It's barrage of fan service with new twists on classic characters are a revelation. Each episode is an hour and a half making each installment a movie unto itself. Highly recommended. I made this piece a little while ago but thought I'd post it in anticipation of this season's final episode airing tomorrow, The Reichenbach Fall

Son of Krypton
Merry Christmas and happy holidays from the fortress of solitude!
Still not sure what I think about Superman's new suit but I do like how this one came out. It's as "accurate" as I could make it using several different references. With the new DC continuity comes with these new outfits that have absolutely no continuity in the way they're drawn. They go to great lengths to take his red undies away to simplify and streamline the design only to go and add a bunch of over rendered, inconsistent, zigzaging lines across his body.
Was trying to think of some quote or caption to put over the top of it but I shied away. One I thought of (or one I stole, I'm not sure, probably akin to something Grant Morrison would write) was :
"...once measured, even God becomes finite."
-Lex Luthor
Or perhaps this one would be more pertinent to the new suit:
in big bold letters,
"HATERS BE HATIN'!"
Also here is a little "step by step"... enjoy!

...And we're back!
Haven't shared ANYTHING in a while but I'm back in the saddle, back in photoshop. This one's to get me back in the groove and release some of the pent up superheros flying around in my brain. If you've been living under a rock you should know that they took away Superman's red undies and covered him with a bunch of chaotic geometric lines. Not sure I support the change but I'm trying it out the new duds for myself... Sometimes a guy's just gotta draw 'im some Supes!

So here's some preliminary sketches for Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" which I plan to turn into a downscrolling webcomic...

Sailor Fellow
Saturday mornings come with a cup of coffee and a podcast. Whilst I listen I usually surf and make a "to do" list. This morning on the back of my list I doodled this sailor fellow after this wonderful series of illustrations here. It never occurred to me that Captain Hook probably couldn't even tie a single knot...

Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns
The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller was one of those comics that re-awakened my interests in comics as an adult and was a gateway into many graphic novels and comics beyond it.
More than anything here I wanted to draw an old, gruff Batman using Clint Eastwood's face for reference... and lets face it, Robin should have always been a chick!
A few people have been asking some Q's about some pieces so I thought I break down my process for The Dark Knight Returns. I'm far from professional but I always appreciate when professionals share their process... thought I might help spread the love! Tutorial!
